Aviophobia or Aviatophobia- Fear of flying.
Aviophobia may be a mild phobia or a severe one, varying with people. Here are a few facts which may relieve that incessant fear.
- There is barely any traffic in air, so your pilot is not going to bump into another plane even by mistake. Remember, he too like all of us, has a family and would surely want to like for them.
- There’s all possibility of a flight being hijacked after 9/11 incident. But then, stricter baggage norms and security checks are a measure on which you can find comfort in.
- If you are scared about flying, you might want to let a stewardess know. They might surely help you get over it
- Learn and make your self comfortable about your surroundings. There are many safety options like an oxygen mask that falls from the ceiling in case of an emergency and the seat on which you sit in a plane can be taken out and used as a float.
- If you are scared while you take-off or landing, don't look out the window. It only makes it worse.
- Try to fly with someone that you trust and love or simply a good friend of yours..
- Fly more frequently. The more you get used to it, the more comfortable you'll feel.
- Try to preoccupy yourself when on the plane. Bring a pocket game, crossword puzzle, book or listen to music.
